Google to launch revolutionary AI tool to detect dermatological conditions

June 3, 2021

The disruptive role of AI in medicine is well known, with applications ranging from breast cancer screening to tuberculosis detection and much more. Google is taking AI's revolutionary potential further through an AI tool that can detect skin conditions. With 10 billion yearly Google search requests on dermatological conditions, and 2 billion people globally suffering from skin problems, Google's tool will enable quick detection and actionable decision making on future treatment steps. Users will simply feed three pictures of affected skin areas into the tool, which will compare them to 288 known conditions in its database to generate highly accurate assessments. Clinician-reviewed information will assist users in seeking the right answers to their questions. With clinical validation under its belt and a Class 1 medical device rating in the EU, Google's tool is set to be released around the end of 2021.
